Pond De-silting - Thaxted

The Brief

The client had a natural pond that they wanted to de-silt due to the build up of organic matter and to make the banks easier to maintain due to the steep slope on the far side of the pond.

The Solution

The water was pumped from the pond and the many goldfish housed in temporary tanks. We then removed the silt with an excavator and tractor and trailer. Due to the bank at the back side being so steep a level shelf was dug out and gabion baskets filled with stones put along it. This then made the bank gradient less and it was later turfed. The pond was left to fill naturally and the fish returned. The following year the pond was planted with native pond plants.
